Does a 21 day fast mean I can’t eat for 21 days?
Anything that you give up to grow closer to God and focus on prayer can be a fast.

Here are a few types of fasts:
Fast of Sacrifice - Giving up television, social media, or anything that would be a sacrifice for you personally.
Partial Fast - This could be a fast from 6AM to 3PM or from sun up to sun down. It could also be a fast from one meal each day.
Daniel Fast - This is a fast from meats, sweets, and bread and you would drink only juice and water.
Liquid Fast - This is a fast in which you drink only liquids such as juice or broth.

What is the purpose of fasting? Why do we do it?
In Matthew 16, Jesus, when speaking about fasting, said “When you fast…” In other words, he expected us to fast at times. Jesus himself also fasted often. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that helps us to focus on God, increase our spiritual strength, and develop a greater hunger for God. Prayer is an essential part of fasting and a fast should always include prayer.
